Planning
Process/ Experimentation
I sketched out what I wanted to use for my final piece that out and tapped in under the glass so I could begin to carve my image into the plexi glass with a sharp tool. After carving out my image I began the printing process. For this I needed to start with soaking water color paper in a bucket of water for about eight minutes. While the paper was soaking I had to put the ink in my glass. I then wiped off all the extra ink because you only need the ink that is in the lines that you carved out. When the paper was done I put it over the glass that now had ink in it. Then put that in newspaper and run it through the ink press. Then repeat the process to make another print.
Reflection
I really enjoyed this project it had its down side to it but so does every project. In my final product I feel that it has a very strong connection to the Native American culture. I do have specific artists but they only led me to connect my final product to the Native American culture. I had some trouble carving the plexi glass when it came to the circle and curved lines in the webbing of the dream catcher. I had issues carving it deep enough and only making one like and nor multiple line that were really close to each other. When it came to printing the only problems that I had were figuring out how much ink was needed to make the best print. Overall I am happy with the outcome of my product. It took me many try to get the look that I wanted but I felt accomplished when I did get the print that I wanted. If I could do this project again I would want to put more then the dream catcher looking at my final product I feel that it is missing something. I could have added me details to the webbing or I could create something in the background. I am happy with the outcome that I got.
ACT Connections
- My are artist inspirations were; Chris Maynard, Tom Gray Elk Rail, and the Native American culture. I was inspired by the way they used feathers to create other things and their views on what feather mean to them.
- My inspirations led me to create prints of dream catchers. This dream catcher was created to protect you from negative thoughts so you can remain positive to see what amazing dream will come next. As dream catches are believed to keep bad dream away.
- I have discovered that Native American culture has many myths and traditions that many people take part of in their daily lives and them might not even know it. I also discovered that these artist view something so common as feathers so majestically.
- The central idea was instead of the dream catcher catching bad dream it can catch bad thoughts so you will be ably to have the good dream later.
- The meaning behind “Dream” is to catch the negative thoughts so that through hard times you only have positive thoughts and an keep you moving forward. The world is filled with so much negativity and we need something to filter out the negativity in the world.
